When this project began, Ashley Butler was halfway through writing her first book, and looking for a personal brand design, as well as branding & styles for her abundance bootcamps & coaching courses. 

Ashley's lively and authentic approach to her life and legacy quickly wound it's way into our hearts, and resulted an a brand the likes of which we have never designed before!

 

Tired of unobtainable fake instagram standards for parenting, and mom guilt out the wazoo, Ashley wanted to show up in the world as the imperfectly perfect woman that she is - and we had so much fun delivering on that request. 

BRAND MESSAGING

During our early Content Mining™ sessions, we learned that this personal brand would highlight Ashley's expertise as an Author & Money Mindset Master, and provide her with a platform to build her Abundance Bootcamp. As a supermom of 4, with a successful corporate career Ashley understood what it was like to constantly have to choose between time with family and self, feeling damned if you do and damned if you don’t, which is why we helped her develop get a witty, gritty and downright real style when it came to clarifying her brand message.

Ashley Butler, author, and the founder of Abundant as a Motha' inspired us daily as we worked with her to find the duality between professional badass and abundant mom who goes with the flow. Slightly gritty but refined. Imperfectly Perfect.

And since a brand is only as impactful as WHERE and HOW you use it, we enjoyed bringing the grit factor to life by layering it into a variety of settings, with the repeating brick wall texture making an appearance when the touchpoint would benefit from this style, like in this cover design for her book.

EXPANDING THE BRAND FAMILY 

Once we decided on Ashley's title as an Abundance Mindset Master for Moms, I began looking for ways to create a simple yet elegant logo for her personal brand that played off of the already established styles for Abundant as a Motha'. The fun idea of her being a mindset master lent itself naturally to the Bo-staff esque line dividing her first and last name with precision.

In certain areas, the branded 'AB' forms a perfect stand alone icon. We provided the client with everything they need, to use it on anything from book covers to social media posts. 

For her author signature on the book cover & spine, she needed to keep it simple, but still on brand. We brought in the key differentiators - the A & B, and did just that.

At Design by Jo, we believe that your personal brand should live at the intersection of who you want to be perceived as in relation to your business, and the authentic self that you are when the cameras stop rolling. 

 

Personal branding can do so much for helping your ideal client connect with you via your online touchpoints! People like to work with real live PEOPLE who get them.

The photos created for Ashley Butler & Abundant As a Motha' needed to feel up close and personal, with emphasis on people actively engaging in life, love, and relishing in abundance. These photos should draw the viewer in with their vibrant captures, and photos of Ashley should be on-brand, engaging, friendly but a little badass.

We carefully chose her settings and the staging items that would show up in the background of her photos
for these exact reasons.

BEHIND THE SCENES

Is it possible to have too much fun on photo shoot day? I don't think so! We have so much fun behind the scenes, and do our best to create an environment that feels like you just spent the day laughing with your best friends. In fact, our clients report that their initial nerves at being in front of the camera fade quickly, and they leave the day feeling confident, unstoppable, and on top of the world!

And when these two values align, you get beautifully on brand touchpoints that highlight the content you are providing, and make the learning experience pleasurable to your customers. 

The result of Ashley's cards was so incredible that it can't be captured in a photo. Effects like embossing, multiple colors of foils and gilded edges all lend themselves to the feeling that their owner is playful and real but with a high degree of mastery and excellence. 

And since Ashley's #1 goal is to uplift other moms, we created the back of her cards to double as a "pass it on" note of encouragement.

As with any brand, consistency is key when it comes to building a loyal base of raving fan customers! Because of this, we set our clients up for success with an easy to follow, custom brand guideline that they can share with their in-house design group, or any external designer who works on their future brand collateral.
